Summary
Skin aging is a natural, progressive physiological process. It is based on the reduction of biological activity of cells and slowing down of regenerative processes. The main role in the ageing process is played by overlapping intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Under their influence, skin cells lose their ability to repair themselves, which results in the appearance of discolouration, wrinkles and age spots. Recognition of the causes, mechanisms and symptoms of skin ageing helps to implement the appropriate treatment aimed at reducing the visible signs and delaying the appearance of further signs. An important role is played by anti-ageing prevention based on proper skin care and protection against the harmful effects of UV radiation - photoprotection.
